The Literary Life with Mitchell Kaplan is inspired by Kaplan’s passion for literature. An independent bookseller for more than 35 years, Kaplan’s podcast will entertain and enlighten listeners as he has candid conversations with well-known authors, many of whom are his close friends.

Kaplan’s Books & Books has expanded to nearly seven locations with the original location in Coral Gables, Fla. hosting more than 60 events per month, consisting of author readings and signings, demonstrations and workshops, live music, reading and discussion groups, as well as a variety of other programs for children and adults throughout the community. 

Additionally, Kaplan is a co-founder of Miami Book Fair International and serves as its chairman.  The Book Fair, sponsored and supported by Miami-Dade College, brings more than 300 authors and exhibitors to a weeklong celebration of all things literary into the heart of downtown Miami and onto the College’s Wolfson Campus. 

As the former president of the American Booksellers Association (ABA), Kaplan also served on the board of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE).  In 2011, he received the National Book Foundation’s prestigious “Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community,” which is presented to an individual for outstanding service to the American literary community, whose life and work exemplify the goals of the National Book Foundation to expand the audience for literature and to enhance the cultural value of literature in America.
